Velma F. Black, 81, passed away, Tues., October, 21, 2008 in Kensington, KS.

She was born April 7, 1927 in Baldwin, WV the daughter of Minter and Maggie Lowther Carson. She married Billy Black on June 3, 1950 in Baldwin, WV. He preceded her in death.

Velma received her BS degree from Glenville State College. She worked as a math and science teacher for USD 501. Velma was active in the women's group at First Southern Baptist Church and was also a Sunday School Teacher.

She is survived by her daughter, Deanna Nech, Kensington; daughter, Charlotte Burkett, Topeka; son, Sidney Black, Topeka; son, Charles Black, Topeka; and nine grandchildren.

Velma was a resident of Kensington, Kansas at the time of her passing.
