THE KINSLEY MERCURY
Kinsley, Edwards County, Kansas
April 5, 1923
Mary Jane Carson was born April 7, 1840, in the state of Ohio. Her parents having died when she was only a girl, she moved with the rest of the family to Iowa, where on November 24, 1870, she was united in marriage to Samuel Bigham. To this union were born three children: two girls and one boy. Lola May passed away at the age of 16, the son died in infancy, and Bertha Lovette, of near Mulliville. The greater part of their married life was spent in Missouri and Kansas. In their declining days, they moved near Mullinville, Kansas, to live live with their daughter, Mrs. John Lovette, where she passed away Wednesday morning March 28, 1923, aged 82 years, 11 months and 21 days.
She leaves to mourn a daughter, Mrs. John Lovette, of Mullinville, a stepson, W.S. Bigham of San Antonio, Texas, six grandchildren, three great grandchildren, and host of friends. In early life, she professed Christ and joined the Methodist church. The funeral services were conducted at 2:30 o'clock from the Free Methodist church south of Kinsley Friday last by Rev. J.A. Holtsclaw of Kinsley, after which she was laid to rest in the Bethel cemetery beside her husband who preceded her about three years before.
