Albert T. Carson 86 Years old, a Civil War Veteran Died at his home out side of Sewert Ill. This morning at 8:00 o'clock, having suffered for months of heart trouble and infirmities of age. Mr. Carson was born November 6, 1841 near London Canada at what was known as the Talbot Settlement. He came with his parents to Winnebago County Ill. In 1850. Mr. Carson enlisted in the Company K 1st Illinois Cavalry, September 6. 1861. He later was honorably discharged and Re -Enlisted in the 5th Illinois Cavalry in 1864. Mr. Carson was active in service until the close of the civil war. His company was discharged at Benton Barracks July 4, 1865. He was in Washington D.C. at the time of President Lincoln's Funeral. After the war Mr.Carson returned to the Sewert and on March 5, 1872, married Miss. Martha Mathewson who had come here from Connecticut. With the exception of five years residence at Fairmont Nebraska the couple have spent all their married live in Sewert Ill. Twelve Children were born to Albert and Martha who survive with the widow who is in very feeble heath. The children are Clyde and Bert of Sewert, George of Cherokee, Iowa, Mrs. Effie Whitney Sewert, Fay of Westfield, Howard of Langford, South Dakota, Kenneth of Rockford, Earl and Ellis of Langford South Dakota, Stanley of Winnebago, Glen of Langford South Dakota, Mrs. Alice Mitchell of Sewert Ill. Albert Carson was one of two charter members of the Pecatonica G.A.R. post at Sewert. Since becoming affiliated with the G.A.R. post in 1883, Albert has held every office in his home, post and was senior vice commander at the time of his death. Funeral services will be held Wednesday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock at Sewart Congregational Church, the Rev. Mr. Thome will officiate burial will be in the Grove Cemetery and the G.A.R. will play military honors at the grave.
