The deceased was born in Kings county, Ireland, March 28, 1828. He came to the United States in 1848, locating first at Jamestown, Ohio, where he engaged in farm work. He was married at Dayton, Ohio, and in 1859 moved to Leavenworth, Kansas, where he did teaming and worked in the city until 1868 when he purchased a farm and engaged in that occupation for three years. He moved back into Leavenworth and remained two years, coming from that place to Laramie in May, 1873. He has lived on the West Side, in the same neighborhood ever since, having been in the employ of the Union Pacific company for eighteen years as a helper in the blacksmith shop. For the past eight or nine years he has been so crippled with rheumatism that he has not been able to do any regular work. The deceased owns two residences and some lots on the West Side.
His sudden death is a painful surprise to all his friends and acquaintances and a severe shock to his family. He was a highly respected citizen and a man of strict integrity.
He leaves, besides a wife, the following children: James E. Carroll, Mrs. Maggie Hickey, Mrs. John Hull, of Pocatello, Idaho; and John Carroll. All are residents of Laramie except Mrs. Hull.
The funeral will be held from the Catholic church Friday morning at 9 o'clock.
