KILLEEN Services for Joe Parks Carroll, 76, of Killeen will be 1 p.m. Friday in Killeen City Cemetery with Roy Smith officiating.

Mr. Carroll died Monday, April 11, at his home.

He was born on Nov. 21, 1934, in Florence. He was a 1954 graduate of Killeen High School. In 1955, he married Ruby Jean Phillips in Killeen. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps, 1957-1959, as a sergeant and a weapons specialist. In 1960, he moved to Harker Heights and started a grocery business of Hilltop Drive-In. He also started Harker Heights Fire Department and served as fire chief in the 1960s, and joined the Harker Heights Police Dept., serving as a reserve officer for 21 years. He owned and operated C+C Gun Shop in Killeen. He had worked at Heights Lumber for 15 years in commercial business sales. He was a lifetime member of the NRA; served as a tribal elder with the Comanche Gap Medicine Men; and served two terms on the city council of Harker Heights.

Survivors include his wife; a son, James Carroll; and a daughter, Charlotte Carroll.

Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. today at Harper-Talasek in Killeen.
