Beautiful Life of Lake O' Girl Taken
Wife of C.C. Batdorff and Daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C.B. Carpenter Laid to Rest at Lake Side.
Great was the surprise of the family and of the many friends of Lottie Carpenter Batdorff when the message came that she had passed away at the time of an operation at a Petosky hospital.
Many were the friends that expressed sympathy to the bereaved family here and at their home. At Levering a funeral service was held at night as the body was to be shipped early the next morning too early for a funeral service.
Mrs. Batdorff was so well known and so much admired by her family and friends here and her accomplishments of so much service in the world that her death seems untimely and to be deplored, however, God who allows those things to come, will help those who sorrow to know that it must have been best.
The beautiful childhood and girlhood of Lottie Carpenter was appreciated by all who knew her. She and her husband even before their marriage were on many musical programs in this village and often gave their services to the M.E. Church here where Mrs. Batdorff was a Sunday School attendant from childhood.
She was studious and bright graduating with the class of 1910 and teaching afterward.
The funeral was held at the Carpenter home here Sunday afternoon Rev. F.H. Cramer gave an excellent talk and a quartette composed of Messrs Leon Gilson, M.A. Wade, Merlin Morgan and Wm. Gilson sang.
Those from out of town in attendance at the funeral were: Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Carpenter of Remus, Mrs. Edwin Davis and son, Mr. and Mrs. Donald Davis of Lansing, Mr. and Mrs. Emerson Batdorff and children Dale and Lorna of Rudyard, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Batdorff of Sault Ste Marie, Mrs. May Batdorff, Mr. and Mrs. Claud Batdorff and Loraine Adams of Grand Rapids, Frances Hoyland and Mrs. Ruth Buckborough of Chicago, Mr. and Mrs. E.F. Bradley of Tecumseh, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Carpenter of Detroit, Mrs. Alfred Rowlander of Mt. Pleasant, Mr. and Mrs. Ambrose Cooper of Woodland, Mr. Clint Rudd and Mr. and Mrs. Leroy Stewart of Berlin and Mr. Galloway of Ionia, also Mr. and Mrs. Bert Holly and Mr. and Mrs. Jake Reisinger of Woodland, Mr. and Mrs. H. C. Lawrence and Mr. and Mrs. A.T. Luther of Ionia, Mr. and Mrs. E.G. York of Grand Rapids and Mr. and Mrs. Coal, Mr. and Mrs. Harting, Mr. and Mrs. J.W. Morrow, John Spensley and Ed Cousins of Levering.
Charlotte Louise Carpenter was born January 16, 1892 at Lansing, Mich., died June 19, 1925 at Petoskey, Mich. When one year of age she moved with her parents to Woodland, Mich., living there until five when the family moved to Lake Odessa where she received her education, graduating in 1910.
During the summer of this year she attended the State Normal College at Ypsilanti, teaching the Goddard school the following fall and winter.
She was married August 9, 1911 to Clyde C. Batdorff, going immediately to Rudyard Mich., where he was engaged as principal of schools.
She has spent her fourteen years of married life in Northern Michigan living in Rudyard, Brimley, Sault Ste Marie and Levering.
While living in the Soo she united with the Central M.E. Church, was also a member of Arbutus Temple Pythian Sisters of Sault Ste. Marie, May Rebekah Lodge of Levering and Eastern Star of Pellston.
She was active in church and lodge work, serving faithfully in the capacity of organist in the various places in which she resided.
Her work as such has ceased here but she has gone to help swell the Heavenly choir and only a loving memory of her work remains with us to help cheer us on.
She leaves to mourn her loss, her husband, son Elwood, daughter Ruth Joyce, father, mother, six sisters, Mrs. E.F. Bradley of Tecumseh Mich., Mrs. P.G. Morris of Lake Odessa, Mrs. A.F.
