Ed was born to William Edward and Catherine (Davis) Carpenter, Sr. He was a Sergeant for the U.S. Army and worked for the American Bridge Division of U.S. Steel for thirty-five years. He was also the Sunday School Superintendent at Faith United Methodist for fourteen years and enjoyed building birdhouses.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife of fifty-four years, Martha Ruth; daughter, Ruth Ann Hinz; three brothers and two sisters.

Those left to cherish his memory are nephews, Leon Wallace and wife Connie, Robin Wallace of Orange; niece, Jeanette Evans and husband Pleas and several grand- nieces and nephews.
