Logan Carpenter was the son of Levi Carpenter (1806 – 1877) and Sarah "Sallie" Perkins (1806 – 1860). Logan born in North Carolina; his family emigrated to the area around Blanche, Tennessee in the mid 1830's; where they were early members of Blanche A.R.P. church near Taft.

Logan married Mary Sarah McDaniel on October 24th 1848 and had the following known children:
Sarah Elizabeth Carpenter (1849 – 1932)
Clinton P. Carpenter (1852 – 1918)
Christopher "C.C." Carpenter, M.D. (1859 – 1926)
Mollie A Carpenter (1865 – )
Margaret Savilla Carpenter {Smith} (1866 – 1929)
John W. Carpenter (1869 – 1949)

After Mary died in 1892, Logan married Elizabeth Jane Tafts on December 4th 1894. They are found on the 1900 census reports:
