JUANITA "JONI" YOUNT CARMACK
January 13, 1919 ~ March 27, 2011
Juanita 'Joni' Yount Carmack, formerly of Camas, Washington, left the world on March 27 at age 93 in Phoenix, Arizona. She grew up in Southeast Missouri during the 1920s. During the 1940's, she taught Arthur Murray dance in St. Louis, Missouri, eventually following her parents to Camas, Washington in 1944.
Joni quickly caught the eye of real estate broker and developer Jim Carmack, of Camas Realty, in Camas, Washington, who proposed to her on their second date. They were married a short time later and remained happily married for over 60 years until his death in 2007.
Jim and Joni were active members of Camasino, dinner bridge groups, city business and politics, and supporters of Camas schools. They later retired to Sun City West, Arizona for many years.
Joni (or 'Mom Mom' as she was known by her grandchildren) will be remembered as a deeply spiritual woman, beautiful inside and out, who always had a smile on her face. She will be deeply missed.
Joni is survived by daughters, April McCourt of Scottsdale, Arizona and Victoria Bailey of Lake Oswego, Oregon; sons, Loyd Carmack of Federal Way, Washington and Robert Carmack of Sydney, Australia; five grandchildren; and her seven great-grandchildren.
A memorial service was held later this spring.
Memorial donations may be made to the American Red Cross.
