Son of Axel & Anna Ereka (Anderson) Carlson.
Grew up in Holdrege, graduated from Holdrege High School in 1932, and from Kearney State Teachers College in 1936; was principal at Wood River High School for 4 1/2 years then was a shop teacher at Kearney High School for one year.
Married: June 9, 1940, to Virginia Kelly in Alda.
Worked at the ammunition plant in Grand Island. 1942 - 1945; received master's degree from Greeley (Colo.) College; did graduate work at Pittsburg (Kan.) State College; was a longtime industrial arts professor at Kearney State College; taught for 38 years, retired in 1982.
Activities: enjoyed traveling after retirement; also fishing, photography and spending time with his family; member of First Lutheran Church in Kearney and served as Sunday school superintendent for 20 years; was a Boy Scout leader for six years, belonged to the Nebraska Education Association; was a life member of the American Industrial Arts Association and American Council on Industrial Arts Education and was a Industrial Education Association member and served as president in 1954; member of Phi Delta Kappa.
Survivors include his wife; sons, Richard of Grand Island and James of Utica; sister, Pauline Borg of Minden; and 15 great-grandchildren; also his daughters-in-law, Linda Carlson of Grand Island and Mary Carlson of Utica; brother-in-law, Kenneth Borg of Minden; and grandchildren, Angela Samway and husband, Kevin, Gina Dubbs and husband, Craig, Amber Snell and husband, Mike, Tricia Hakonson and husband, John, Jan Harnes and husband, Weston, and Trent Carlson.
