Franklin Carlson, Son of Mr. and Mrs. Swen V Carlson residing a short distance north of Shafer, in Shafer Township and one of the proprietors of the Green Lake Garage in Chisago City succumbed to an attack of double pneumonia at the family home early last Sunday afternoon August 17. He was 26 years of age.
Sad news of the young man's death which occurred after a short illness lasting about four or five days shocked the entire community where he was well known Sunday. The illness developed from a slight cold and as it became more serious he was removed from his home, with a trained nurse and physicians in attendance. His condition became gradually worse and he failed to rally, passing away shortly after 2:00 Sunday afternoon. He had enjoyed excellent health until almost a week before his death.
Funeral services were conducted at the family home at 1:30 last Tuesday afternoon and at the Chisago Lake church at 2:30 and were attended by a large number of friends and relatives of the young nab. Rev Oscar Sandahl officiating and burial took place in the Chisago Lake Cemetery.
A beautiful hymn was sung at the services by Rev and Mrs. Sandahl and another song was sung by the Misses Lillian and Myrtle Benson. Pallbearers were, Roy Anderson, Mr. Noyd, Arthur Nelson, Roy Martenson, Phillip West and Reuben Turner.
Carl Edwin Franklin Carlson was born on the home farm in Shafer Township on January 25, 1898. He was baptized on February 20 of the same year and on April 20, 1913 was confirmed in the Chisago Lake Church of which he was a member until the time of his death. He died at the age of 26 years, 6 months and 22 days.
He attended the county public schools near his home, later on securing employment at the Shafer Garage. He remained in that employ for several years and this spring left Shafer, together with a partner opening the new Green Lake Garage at Chisago City. He continued that work until he passed away.
He is mourned deeply by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Swen v Carlson, 3 sisters and two brothers, an aged grandmother, several other near relatives and a host of friends throughout the community. His brothers and sisters are: Nora A Carlson, Mrs. Esther Nelson of Minneapolis, Lillian, Paul and Royal Carlson all at home.
The Press joins with the community in extending sympathy to the bereaved family.
