Mrs. N P Carlson, 89 years of age and who had resided on a farm 1 ½ miles south of Shafer until 3 years ago when she moved to St Paul, died last Thursday morning April 1 at 11 am. The end came at the home of her daughter Mrs. Henning Swanson at 817 Marshall Ave. Mrs. Carlson had lived with her daughter when she fell and broke her hip 3 years ago. She had been confined to bed since that time and was blind and deaf.
She is survived by her husband, N P Carlson of the home farm who is 90 years of age and the following daughters and son: Mrs. Anna Liljenberg of Almelund, Albert Carlson of Braham, Mrs. Henning Swanson of St Paul and Mrs. Emil Gustafson of Center City.
Two children preceded her in death. She also leaves a host of 19 grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren besides a host of friends in the Shafer and Center City communities.
The deceased Emma Charlotte Carlson was born in Sandsjo, Smoland, Sweden, Dec 25, 1848 and was married there May 20, 1867. She came to this country in 1887 with her husband and five children going directly to Shafer community where they settled on the aforementioned farm. Here Mrs. Carlson remained until leaving for St Paul 3 years ago.
Funeral services were held at the Chisago Lake Lutheran Church of which she was a long time member. Officiating was Rev C E Slatt while pallbearers were: C W Nelson, Emil Grandstrand, C A Jonason, Oscar Moquist, Frank E Nelson and Charles Alm. Burial was made in the church cemetery.
