Alice M. Carlson, 74, of Biwabik, formerly of Tower, died Saturday, Feb. 4, 2012, at Essentia Health St. Mary's Medical Center in Duluth.

She passed away with her family by her side.

She was born on Dec. 21, 1937, in Biwabik, the daughter of Waino and Celia (Rannila) Karkinen.

She worked at Cluett-Peabody (Arrowhead Shirt Factory) in Virginia, for the University of Minnesota, through the agricultural extension, United States Steel Minntac mine, LTV Steel, and owned and operated the Curiosity Shoppe in Tower for many years.

Alice was well known throughout the area for her culinary skills. She was a very creative and talented artist and crafter. She could paint on anything and make it a wonderful gift. She enjoyed traveling, gardening and bingo.

Spending time with her "brood", and feeding them, was the most joyful aspect of her life. No matter where she went, Alice always brightened up the room.
