Hans Fredrick Carlson, 80, of Duluth, died Saturday, May 30, 1999, in his home.

He was born in Duluth and was owner of Hans Carlson Upholstery. He was a member of Christ Lutheran Church, West Duluth Moose, VFW Post 137 and the American Legion Post 71. He was a medic in the Army during WWII and a volunteer driver. He also taught square dancing, and was a caller for more than 40 years and was a member of the Good Time Square Dancing Club. He was an avid golfer and bowler.

He was preceded in death by one son, Mark, in 1961; his wife, Ione, in 1997; his parents, Hans and Emma (Derichs) Carlson; and sisters and brothers.

He is survived by one daughter, Bonnie J. (Greg) Dhaemers of Superior, Wis.; two sons, Fredrick "Fritz" H. of Duluth and Bruce H. of Esko; seven grandchildren and one great-grandson.

Visitation was held on Monday from 5-8 p.m. at Bell Brothers Chapel. Service was held on Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Christ Lutheran Church. Burial was in Oneota Cemetery with military honors accorded by the Duluth VFW Honor Guard. Arrangements by Bell Brothers Funeral Directors, Bell Brothers Chapel, Duluth.
