Herman Carlman, native of Sweden, and well known in Douglass and this community passed away at Kansas City, Missouri, July 7. He was a brother of the late C. A. Carlman of Douglass and had visited here many times in years gone by.
Herman Carlman, son of Carl Johan and Christina Carlman, was born August 5, 1872 at Kristdala, Sweden. He came from Sweden to the United States in 1891 and lived in the McPherson community until 1895. Since that time he has made his home at Kansas City, Missouri. He was 82 years 11 months and 2 days of age at his passing.
He never married. At the age of 14 years he was confirmed to the Lutheran Church in Kristdala, Sweden. He was a member of the N.N. & E. Society, the Gotha Lodge and Swedish Pioneer Club.
He leaves to mourn his passing two brothers Anton Carlman, Wausa, Nebraska; and Ludwig Carlman of Sweden; several nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
Services were held at the Freeman chapel in Kansas City, Missouri. with Rev. Monson, minister of the Immanual Lutheran Church, officiating at 8 p.m. Friday.
After these services, the body was broought to Douglass for burial.
Funeral services were held from the Hilyard Funeral Home in Douglass at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 10, conducted by Rev. Oscar Magnusson of Winfield
Glenn Hilyard was soloist, with C. S. Scott at accompanist.
Bearers were Ray Forbes, Fred Williams, Walter Martin, Clair Scott, Arnold Guyot and Sam Asmussen.
Burial was in the Dougass Cemetery, with Hilyard Funeral Home in charge.
