Daniel F. Carlin, age 74 of Lawler, IA passed away on Tuesday, November 18, 2014 at Mercy Medical Center in New Hampton.

Daniel Francis Carlin was born on January 17, 1940 to James and Marcella (Hentges) Carlin in New Hampton, IA. He attended Our Lady of Mt. Carmel School in Lawler and graduated from Lawler High school in 1957. Dan Farmed near Lawler and was employed at Oliver Corporation in Charles City. He enlisted in the Iowa National Guard and served from 1962 to 1968.

Dan was united in marriage to Mary Eileen Cooney on November, 22, 1969 at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church in Lawler. Dan and Mary Eileen had known each other since the first grade. In 1995 Dan rented out the farm land and went to work for Featherlite in Cresco where he worked for several years.

Dan enjoyed woodworking, landscaping, playing cards, hunting, fishing, trapping, watching bull riding with friends, listening to country music, and following his grandchildren’s activities.

He was a member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church in Lawler, Holy family Church in New Hampton, Lawler American Legion Harold Redman Post #279 and the Catholic Order of Foresters.

Dan is survived by his wife of 45 years Mary Eileen of Lawler; children, Dannette (Mike) Roethler of Charles City, IA, Lea (Steve) Holcomb of Vernon Hills, IL, Patrick (Mik Hansen) Carlin of Marion, IA, Paul (Samantha Kemp-Carlin) Carlin of Des Moines, IA; three grandchildren Megan, Drew, and Brynn Roethler; brother-in-law Gene (Mary Jane) Schultz Jr. of New Hampton; two nieces Susan (Wayne) Troyna of New Hampton, and Jodi (DJ) Njus of New Hampton.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Patricia Schultz; and in-laws Leo and Eileen Cooney.

Services 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Holy Family Church, with burial in Calvary Cemetery, both in New Hampton. Military honors will be provided by Lawler American Legion Harold Redman Post 279. Visitation from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. today at Canway-Markahm Funeral Home, New Hampton, with a 7:30 p.m. scriptural wake service. Visitation also an hour before services Saturday at the church.
