Died at Golden Acres Nursing Home. Her parents, Nathan and Mary Carl, brought their family to the Onaga community in 1884 and Nell attended schools here. She later taught primary grades at various schools, including the Onaga school.

She was married November 4, 1900 to Lloyd S. Bitler who died in 1924. In 1926 she married Garrett E. Groomer and for a time they served as superintendent and matron of the I.O.O.F. Home at Manhattan. They later lived in Grants Pass, Oregon, then returned to Kansas where they lived in Topeka until Mr. Groomer's death in 1958.

Survivors include her daughter Marie Witham of Topeka, son Carl Bitler of Portland, Oregon stepson, Roger Groomer, of Kansas City, Kansas, and her brother, Colonel Carl of Onaga. She also leaves six grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at the Onaga Congregational Church with internment in Onaga Cemetery.
