Sherman F. Carey married Ethel Otis Aug. 24, 1945, in Waterville. They raised five children. The family lived in western New York state from 1947 to 1959.

He is survived by one son Sherman Carey Jr. (Kathryn) of Waterville; three daughters, Nancy Marshall Parry of Farmingdale, Susan Hodge (Les) of Orlando, Fla., and Brenda LaChance (Norman) of Grand Junction, Colo. He has nine grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his son, Edward Carey.
