Homer Louis Cardwell, son of Arthur and Agnes Cardwell was born June 21, 1902, at the Cardwell Homestead in Union Township and died at Republic County Hospital at the age of 75 years, 11 months, 21 days.
He spent his entire life in Union Township and received his education in Elm Grove Rural School District 85, Republic County.
He was married to Myrtle Josephine Strom, June 2, 1926. To this union were born two daughters: Betty Pauline and Shirley Rae.
His life was farming and he and Myrtle lived on the Rasmussen Homestead their 52 years of married life.
He was a member of the Amana Lutheran church, Scandia, Blue Lodge 123 at Republic, Royal Arch No 69 at Belleville and the Hiram Council No 10 and the Commandry No 42 at Concordia. He went as High Priest to Wichita and was past Patron of the Eastern Star.
He was a 4-H leader for 26 years and helped organize Sherdahl 4-H in 1946.
He helped organize the Republic County Historical Society; served on the Belleville Fair Board, member of the District # 1 School Board, Prairie Rose Cemetery Board and Farm Bureau Board. On April 14, 1978, Homer was presented with a plaque of Trustee service to the North Central Kansas Electric Cooperative, Inc.
Homer was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Agnes Cardwell, one daughter, Shirley Rae, who died in infancy, a grandson, James Robert, and one brother Charley Cardwell.
Survivors are his wife, Myrtle, one daughter, Mrs Eugene Brown (Pauline) Beloit, one sister Mrs Duaine (Alice) Greenslade, one brother George, five grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, June 14, at 10:00 am at the Amana Lutheran Church, Scandia, conducted by Pastor Arnold A Wuertz. Graveside service was conducted by the Public Lodge No 123 AF and AM Republic.
Interment was in the Prairie Rose cemetery.
