After 102 years of embracing life, our cherished mother, Carmen M. Cardini, entered God's loving arms on Monday, Oct. 19, 2009, in Brookfield, Wis., surrounded by her family.
She was born on May 28, 1907, in Nashwauk, to Peter and Concetta (Debreto) Fiola and attended the Nashwauk schools. She was united in marriage to Valent Cardini on Feb. 11, 1928, and remained a Chisholm resident until she moved to Wisconsin in 2005.
Carmen was a retired employee of The Amalgamated Clothing Workers of America where she worked as an inspector until her retirement in 1973. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, past secretary of the SJKJ Society and served on the CHS Steering Committee for the 1972 All-Class Reunion. For many years she assisted with catering at the Slovenian Home in Chisholm where her spaghetti sauce was always enjoyed. She was an avid bocce ball player and won several championships with her friend and partner, Leone Altuvilla.
She is lovingly survived by her devoted daughters, Darlene (David) Trescott of Brookfield, Wis., with whom she made her home for the past four years and Shirley (Richard) Wilman of Buhl; very special grandsons, Tom Wilman (Lezlee) of Minneapolis and Todd (Terri) Wilman of Buhl; three great-grandchildren, Kyle, Lindsay and Chase Wilman; one step-great-grandson, Travis Pickle and one sister, Betty Fiola of Denver, Colo.; by loving nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Valent Cardini on July 31, 1963; grandson, Timothy Wilman on Aug. 11, 1996; her parents; one brother; four sisters and very special friend and caregiver, Irene Valentini, who passed away in May 2007.
She will be remembered as a loving wife, devoted mother and friend to all. Carmen's energy and zest for life will be an inspiration to those who knew and loved her.

Funeral: A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Chisholm, with Rev. Frank Perkovich celebrating.
Visitation: Will be for one hour prior to the mass at the church on Friday.
Burial: Interment will follow in Chisholm Cemetery.
Arrangements are entrusted to Rupp Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Chisholm.
