Frank T. "Bud" Caprara Jr., of Twin Bridges, died Sunday, Sept. 27, 2009, in St. James Healthcare, Butte, after a brief illness.
Bud was born in Butte Aug. 23, 1927, the middle child of Frank T. and Myrtle (Henderson) Caprara. He was raised at Buxton and attended school at Ramsay and Butte High. He worked summers for the Northern Pacific Railway at Silver Bow.
At 18 he enlisted in the armed forces and served in the European Theater during World War II from Oct. 10, 1945, to Aug. 13, 1948, where he earned several medals.
He married Dorothy Miles Nov. 18, 1951. They had three children and later divorced. He then married Penny Shipp and had two boys. They made their home in Twin Bridges.
Bud worked briefly for Stauffer Chemical and then for the Montana Highway Department, finally as a project engineer, retiring in 1989 with 42 years and 10 months of service.
Bud enjoyed playing softball, bowling, cards, and gardening. He was a wonderful cook, especially Italian dishes. He loved getting together with family and passed his love of fishing, camping, and the outdoors on to his children.
He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Penny; daughter, Vicky (Gregg) Rydquist of Great Falls; sons, Vincent (Rosa) Caprara of Denver, Craig (Colleen) Caprara of Missoula, Gary (Heather) Caprara and Mark (Lisa) Caprara of Helena; siblings, Marion Farmer and Richard (Linda) Caprara of Butte; 10 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Myrtle Caprara.
Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 5, in K&L Mortuary Chapel in Twin Bridges.
In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to the Twin Bridges Volunteer Fire Department.
