Mrs. Ruby Hilyer Wells Canty, age 89, died on Monday, February 7, 2011 in Mobile, AL. She was born August 11, 1921 to the late Riley Eugene and Florence May Jones Wells of Kreole, MS. Mrs. Canty retired from Bush Office Supply and was a member of First Baptist Church of Pascagoula since 1939. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Kell William Canty; infant daughter, Christina Lynn Canty; two sisters, Gwendolyn Frances Wells and Maomi Wells Gibson.

Survivors include sons, William "Bill" Canty (Ann Lochridge Canty) of Oxford, MS and Bobby Canty of Shawnee, OK; daughters, Marsha Gilder (Charles) of Morgan City, LA, Frances Greenough (Gary) of Mobile, AL, Gina Powell (Fred) of Nashville, TN, and Paula Canty Haygood of Mobile, AL; a brother, Everett "Buddy" Wells of Irvington, AL; sister-in-law, Dorothy Rayborn Canty of Sumrall, MS; 13 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. The family would like to thank Dr. Ritesh Gupta along with the staff at Spring Hill Home Health and Hospice for the care given our Mother. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to First Baptist Church, 902 Live Oak Avenue, Pascagoula, MS. 39567.
Funeral services will be held at First Baptist Church of Pascagoula on Friday, February 11, 2011 at 11 a.m. Visitation will be held at the church from 9:30 a.m. until the 11 a.m. service time. Rev. Dennis Ray Smith, Dr. Jay Cook and Rev. Charles Gilder will be officiating.
Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery in Pascagoula. Pallbearers will be grandsons James Kell Canty, Keith Gilder, Paul Gilder, Dane Haygood along with the grandaughter's spouses David Sparks, Rob Bright, Brad Shirley, Jeff Baxley, Chris Zobrosky, Terry Coursey, Jeff Martin and Adam Levitt. Arrangements by Holder-Wells Funeral Home, Moss Point, Miss.
