Modoc County has lost one of its most popular matrons in the passing of Mrs. Arlette Bonham at her home on Sunday, Aug. 19, aged 69 years. She was stricken with a cerebral hemorrhage on the proceeding Wednesday. The deceased was born Arletta Romance Cantrall on June 20, 1892 in Jess Valley to Andrew J. and Ida Cantrall, being the first of nine children.
In her youth she married Frank Van Horn who at one time was deputy sheriff of Modoc County. She and her late husband, Louis Bonham, owned and operated the Fourth Street Grocery until October 1947.
