Alger Lewis Cannon, 80, of Greenville Place, 2006 Pelham Road No. 28, husband of Dorothy Rollins Cannon for 62 years, died Feb. 19, 2002, after an extended illness.
A native of Greenville County, son of the late A.B. and Daisy Moore Cannon. He was a retired school instructor with Greenville County Schools, a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, a former member of the Ruritan Club, a member of Providence Baptist Church, where he was an ordained Deacon, former Superintendent of Sunday School, and was a Sunday School teacher for many years.
Surviving in addition to his wife are one son, Dennis Cannon, of Dillon; and one daughter, Selma Edwards, of Taylors.
Mr. Cannon was known as "Papa" to his eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Mr. Cannon was predeceased by one son, Joseph Lewis "Joe" Cannon.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today at The Wood Mortuary, conducted by the Rev. C.B. Rollins, Chaplain Rodney Craggs and the Rev. Edmond Poole. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Lewis Rollins, J.W. Rollins, Logan Rollins, Raymond Bruce, Marvin Cannon, Hugh Cannon, Doug Cannon and Ronnie Poole.
The family is at the home of the daughter, 110 River Park Lane, Taylors.
