He served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Missouri from 1946 to 1948.
He was a family man and worked hard all his life to provide a good home and loving foundation for his children.
He lived in New Jersey for 68 years.
He was an automotive and truck mechanic who retired from Miller Truck Leasing in 1991.
Jimmy loved all animals, especially horses. He owned, trained, and raced thoroughbred horses. He kept an active interest in the sport all his days.
He moved to Maryland in 1997 and was well liked and respected by all his neighbors and friends.
He was very much loved and will be sadly missed by his wife, Nancy of more than 62 years.
He was preceded in death by two children, Carol Dotson and Jeffrey Cann.
Surviving are six children: James and Carole Cann, Donna and Joe McBreen, Karen and Mark Gilbert, Michelle and George Stintsman, Susan Stintsman, Kevin and Lisa Cann. He had 20 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren; one brother, Ralph Cann, and was preceded in death by a sister; and four brothers. He had many nieces and nephews who loved him and will miss him greatly.
Visitation will be held Thursday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Perinchief Chapels, 438 High St., Mt. Holly. Inurnment in St. Andrews Graveyard in Mt. Holly will be held 11 a.m. Monday.
