Mary was the daughter of Harry Pennington Cann, and Agnes Stansbury Cann, both of Baltimore. She was a graduate of Eastern High School and Goucher College. She was a member of the American Association of University Women, and of the Grace Methodist Church. At some point she became a French teacher at Forest Park High School. She married James Allen Moore, originally a native of El Paso, Texas, on June 28th., 1939. Cann descendant Lisa Farnitano in an email furnished me with the following additional information: "I'm attaching Mary Cann Moore's wedding photo--but it is a very poor quality scan from the newspaper. Maybe there in Baltimore you can come up with an original that looks better. I also have the text to an obituary that appeared for her in the Goucher alumni magazine, which gave me the following information: Graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Goucher in 1933. Took graduate studies in English at Johns Hopkins and University of Michigan. Taught Jr. High School before her marriage and after 10 years absence from teaching returned in 1953-1960 to teach at Forest Park High School, where she taught French, Spanish and English. Active in her church, organized Boy & Girl Scout Troops and involved in the College Club and the Garden Club. She married an engineer from Texas, James Allen Moore, and had two children, Nancy and Jimmy." After Mary's death, James remarried, and passed away in 1997 at the age of 83. He had a 41-year career with Domino Sugar, and was appointed the Baltimore plant manager in 1953.
