Candelaria -- Alex Candelaria, 52, passed away February 5, 2003.

He was born in Albuquerque, and was a gifted musician who loved to travel.

Alex will be remembered as a loving father, grandfather and son.

He is survived by his children, Nathan, Sandra, Amy, and Seilah Candelaria; mother, Alvita Candelaria; sisters, Rosemary and Irene; brother, Nestor; other family and friends who loved and will miss him.

Alex was a local hispanic musician who specialized in his expertise in guitar playing styles and was considered to be the best guitar player in New Mexico. He was one of the founding members of the band named Excelentos, also known as the XL's, along with Nestor Dominguez, Manager Roman Mora, Gilbert Gutierrez and Ronnie Armijo.

Alex was also responsible for teaching many of the top local musicians and bands of today. Many of the musicians he was responsible for teaching included top organ players, drummers, saxophonists, guitarists, and bass guitar musicians in today's top bands.
