Born Oct. 12, 1919, at Lester, he was the son of the late James Bailey and Caroline Bryson Canaday.
Larry was a coal miner retiring from Eastern Associated Coal Co. with more than 40 years of service. He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran serving in the South Pacific during World War II. He was a member of the Packs Branch Baptist Church and had been a lifetime resident of Raleigh County.
Larry was preceded in death by his wife, Olive Covey Canaday; a son, Michael Larry Canaday; sisters, Molly, Mildred and Vivian and by brothers, Obal, Bastine, Reginald and Bailey.
Survivors include three sons, Richard Canaday and his wife, Judy, of Easton, Pa., Ronald Canaday and his wife, Sandy, of Crab Orchard, and Dennis Canaday and his wife, Mary, of Beckley, with whom he resided; a sister, Geraldine Kline of Ormond Beach, Fla.; five grandchildren; one great-grandchildren, and a special friend, Margaret Dickson of Beckley.
Service will be 1 p.m. Friday at Calfee Funeral Home Chapel, Beckley, with Pastor Samuel Vance officiating. Burial will follow in the Canaday Cemetery, Glen View.
Military graveside rites will be conducted by the Oak Hill VFW Post 3110.
