BREWER and CORINTH – Marie C. Burleigh, 85, died peacefully Thursday, March 20, 2014, with her loving family by her side, after a sudden illness. She was born Dec. 15, 1928, in Corinth, the daughter of Vernon and Della (Clark) Campbell.

She graduated from East Corinth Academy and at age 18 married her soul mate, Clarence ‘Doc' Burleigh and had 64 wonderful years together until his death in 2011. They had three daughters and always made sure that there was plenty of laughter, love and family time. Her laugh was constant and contagious. One of her greatest joys was the many summers spent at Sebec Lake, leaving lasting memories to her children and grandchildren of pontoon boat rides, card games ending in the wee hours of the mornings, some successful and some not so successful attempts at water skiing, Saturday night baked bean suppers and always the smell of bacon cooking Sunday mornings. Doc and Marie also enjoyed their many years wintering in Florida and especially loved it when the kids and grandkids came to visit. Marie was a wonderful wife and mother and her love for her family was truly evident. Mom, we will miss you terribly but are so happy you are up in heaven dancing up a storm with dad and laughing once again at all his antics.

She was predeceased by her parents; her husband, Doc; brothers, Ronald and Clifford Campbell; brother-in-law, Bill Burleigh; and sisters-in-law, Dode and Nola Burleigh.

She is survived by her three daughters, Bonnie Bridges of Auburn, Diana Caldwell and her husband, Larry, of Madison, and Susan Shaw and her husband, Dick, of Hudson; and seven grandchildren, Lisa Parker, Michael and Jason Gormley, Angie and Jeremy Hartt, Amy Matulis and Andrew Shaw. She also leaves behind many nieces and nephews; sisters-in-law, Nancy and Bonnie Campbell; brother-in-law, Glenn Burleigh; and her two special cats, Twink and Peanut. She leaves many friends in Corinth, as well as Eagle Ridge Senior Park in Brewer where she resided for the past 14 years.

The family would like to express our sincere thanks and gratitude to the wonderful staff in the ER and ICU at Eastern Maine Medical Center for their care, compassion and support these past few days, especially Tina in the ER; Marcy, Becca, Rachel, Debbie and Rozlyn in the ICU and a special thanks to Dr. Bach, Lia and Christy from the Palliative Care Team.
