In 1424 he was one of the Hostages for the redemption of King James I from captivity.
Before March 1440 he was invested as a Knight.
In 1442 he was one of the founders of the Collegiate Church of Kilmun in Argyll.
In 1445 he was created as the 1st Lord of Lochow
