Lavinia (Nan) Goddard Campbell, 98, Chelan, died quietly at Starr Family Home Saturday, November 13, 2004, with her loving son and daughter at her side.

Lavinia was born in Cape Cod, Massachusetts January 10, 1906, the daughter of Stanley and Esther (Chase) Crowell. She moved with her parents to Southern California at an early age. She graduated from Huntington Park High School in 1923.

At a Masonic dance, with her parents, she met her future husband, Roy Allen Campbell. They were married on April 6, 1928.

They moved to Long Beach in 1937, to Bakersfield and back to Long Beach in 1956. They bought the house next door to their daughter and son in-law in 1961. Nan's husband passed away in 1971, and she continued to live there until 1983, when she moved to Chelan with her daughter and son in-law, following her grandson, Jim, who moved to Chelan in 1978. She worked as a private secretary most of her life. She worked 27 years for Stansbury, Inc., an oil drilling company in Long Beach and she was still working at age 77, when she moved to Chelan. She enjoyed gardening, writing to friends, visiting with friends, playing cards and most of all, spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a very loving, devoted and giving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She enjoyed spending time with her friends at the Senior Center in Chelan.

She was a member of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church in Chelan and St. Gregory's Episcopal Church in Long Beach. In 1951, she and her husband purchased a lot in his home town of Los Olivos, CA. She kept that lot over 50 years, letting the town use it as a park. Last year she sold the lot to POLO (Preservation Of Los Olivos) to be kept as a park forever. Nan was honored with a dedication ceremony by the town of Los Olivos and the placement of a plaque "Lavinia Campbell Park". The Rotary Club awarded her the "Paul Harris" award. This award is given to acknowledge those individuals whose actions are humanitarian in nature.

She is survived by a sister and brother in-law, Doris and Walter Plummer of San Clemente, CA; a daughter and son in-law, Barbara and Geno Ramella; a son and daughter in-law, Tony and Jeri Campbell, all of Chelan. Nine grandchildren, Jim (Linda) Ramella, Julie (Bob) Exton, Susie (Bill) Fenton, Stacy (Rick) Meyers, Kelly (Don) Schmid, Karen (Dan) Gillham, Kristin (Joe) Faccone, Jeff (Judy) Blizzard, Jim Blizzard, seventeen great-grandchildren and many family members. Nan received excellent loving care at the Starr Family Home by Jaclyn, Lennae, Sherry and Debbe. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
