John was a son of The Rev. John Calvin Campbell I and Elizabeth (née Reed) Campbell. John C. Campbell II first married Ada Belle Smith on June 16, 1873. They were the parents of three children. Secondly, he married Mrs. Jennie Davenport of Dryden, NY. Jennie was a daughter of Chauncey Teeter and Eliza Apgar. There were no children from this marriage.

A son, Frederick Campbell, predeceased his father.

Surviving children at the time of John Campbell's death were Mary Elizabeth (aka Marion) Campbell Morgan, son-in-law Charles Grier Morgan and son Emmett Ray Campbell and his wife Maud. Two grandchildren, Grier Morgan and Janet Morgan also survive.



John C. Campbell, 75, died at 7:45 o'clock on Tuesday evening, January 1, at his home, 804 North Tioga Street. The funeral will be held at 2 o'clock on Friday afternoon, January 4, at the home. Rev. M. D. Hardin will officiate. Interment will be in Pleasant Grove Cemetery.

He is survived by his widow; one son, E. Ray Campbell of Ithaca; one daughter, Mrs. Charles G. Morgan of Morris Run, Pa.; one brother, Peter Campbell of Ithaca, and four sisters, Mrs. Arthur C. Burr of Dryden, Mrs. Olive Orcutt of Owego, Mrs. Herbert Sibley and Mrs. William Ostrum of Olean.

Mr. Campbell was a member of Ithaca Lodge No. 71, I.O.O.F., and was connected for many years with the H. J. Bool Company, furniture dealers.
