Following is the obituary that was read at the services:
Nellie Ada, eldest daughter of the Wiley Brooks Campbell family of seven children, was born at Salem, Kansas, December 18, 1881, and passed away at Smith Center, May 11, 1955 at the age of 73 years, 4 months and 23 days.
Her education was attained in the local school of the community. On December 25, 1900, she was united in marriage to a neighbor boy, Lee Brown of Pawnee township, Smith County, Kansas. The young couple moved to a farm in the community and here were born the four children. In the Pawnee community the family lived until 1919, when they moved to their farm six miles northwest of Lebanon. The husband passed away in October of 1942 and, because of ill health, the mother and two children, Ernest and Loletta, moved to Smith Center in 1944.
Early in life Nellie became a Christian and later became a member of the United Brethren Class in the Pawnee Union Church. Always a regular attendant to the church and Sunday school while physically able to go, faithful to her God, and loyal and patient to her family, this kindly dispositioned lady lived at peace with her God and all her neighbors.
For 30 years she was afflicted with arthritis, the past seven years most of the time unable to move her body or walk without the aid of one of her children. But she bore her suffering with a stolidness and patience characteristic of a good woman. As long as she was able to hold a pen she enjoyed writing letters to her many relatives and friends.
Her death leaves the three children: Ellen (Mrs. Howard Miller), her husband, Howard and son, Donald of Cushing, Nebr.; and Ernest and Loletta of the home; four sisters and one brother: Mrs. Carrie Clark of Los Angeles, Calif.; Mrs. Alice Chandler of Alma, Nebr.; Mrs. Jane McVicker of Dalles, Oregon; Mrs. Lourena Mallon of Denver, Colo., and Robert Campbell of Yakima, Wash.
She was preceded in death by the husband, Lee; one daughter, Laura Mae, aged two years; one sister, Chloe Gass, and one grandson, Donald Miller.
