Garry A. ‘Poppy' Campbell Sr.
Garry A. "Poppy" Campbell Sr., 54, died Thursday, April 22, 2004, at his residence in Edinburgh.
He was born Aug. 17, 1949, in Edinburgh. His parents were Jennings B. and Emma F. (Burton) Campbell. He married Connie W. (Harmon) Campbell on Feb. 5, 1987. She survives. Other survivors include three sons, Garry Campbell Jr. of Edinburgh, Todd Lee of Seymour and Bryan Campbell of Plainfield; two daughters, Sally Campbell and Monica Myers, both of Edinburgh; a brother, Howard Shaw Sr. of Edinburgh; four sisters, Sue Davis of Indianapolis and Naomi McCall, Brenda Niccum and Mary Burch, all of Franklin; 10 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Letha Pearl Shaw and Minnie Ellen Campbell; and a granddaughter, Heather Dawn Campbell.
He was employed by Allison in Indianapolis as an inventory controller for 27 years, retiring in 2000.
He was a member of Edinburgh Sons of American Legion and Local 933. He served as past president of Whiteland Jaycees and past president district director of Indianapolis Jaycees and coached bantam baseball and football at Whiteland.
He enjoyed mushroom hunting, auto racing and all sports.
The Rev. Lewis Burton will conduct a service at 1 p.m. Saturday at Who So Ever Will Church in Edinburgh. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today and from 11 a.m. until service time Saturday at the church. Burial will be at Rest Haven Cemetery in Edinburgh. Eskew-Eaton Funeral Home in Edinburgh is handling arrangements.
