Mr. Campbell attended Frankfort Pilgrim College and graduated from Marion and Butler Universities. He taught eight years at Frankfort Pilgrim College and taught art 31 years at Clinton Central High School, retiring in 1990.
He was a member of Michigantown Wesleyan Church and served on the district board of review and district board of ministerial development, and was a delegate to two general conferences. He also was a member of Gideons International, Clinton County Retired Teachers Association, Kokomo Art League, president of Clinton County Art League, honorary member of WCTU and a Clinton County Red Cross volunteer.
He had received the Frankfort Pilgrim College Outstanding Layman Award. Psi Iota Xi Sorority established a Charles E. Campbell Art Award to be given to a top art student in the county each year.
He was born November 24, 1927, in Fayette, West Virginia, to Douglas Lee and Pearl Virginia Catherine Bragg Campbell. He married Bertie Blanche Whisman on August 4, 1951, and she survives.
Also surviving are a son, Gary L. of Antioch; a daughter, Karen F. Trapp of Cincinnati, Ohio; a sister, Lenora Ruth Brill of Bunker Hill, West Virginia, and one step-grand-daughter.
Three sisters and two brothers preceded him in death.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in the Michigantown Wesleyan Church with the Rev. Ernest Batman and the Rev. Dale Downes officiating. Burial will be in Whiteman Cemetery, Michigantown. Friends may call 3-8 p.m. Tuesday in Frye & Genda Funeral Home.
