Geraldine Campbell Brookman, 86, Covington, Thursday March 30, 2017 in the Alleghany Health and Rehab in Clifton Forge.

Mrs. Brookman was born May 3, 1930 in Alleghany County to the late James Robert Campbell and Mae Young.

She is also preceded by two sons, Ronnie O. Brookman, an infant son, a son-in-law, Paul Thurston Sr., a grandson, Paul Thurston Jr., and a brother, Ryland Campbell.

Geraldine was a retired teacher's assistant in the Title One Program at the former Boiling Springs Elementary School and was a member of the Alleghany County Retired Teachers Association.

She was a member of the Persinger Memorial United Methodist Church, where she started the youth program and was a counselor along with being the church treasurer for a number of years. She sang in the Potts Valley Singers and was part of the United Methodist Women.

Surviving are her husband of 70 years, Odell W. Brookman; two daughters, Lois Thurston and Janice (Russell) Rose; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two sisters, Christine Hepler and Ellen (Freddie) Hepler; two brothers, Robert (Cathy) Campbell and James "Butch" (Susie) Campbell.

The funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm, Sunday, April 2, 2017 in the chapel of Arritt Funeral Home with the Rev. David Brown officiating.

The interment will follow in Lone Star Cemetery.

The family suggests that memorial contributions can be made to the Persinger Memorial United Methodist Church.
