Rhoda "Eileen" Campbell was born on January 31, 1923 on the Lost Creek Ranch, four miles north of Oshkosh the daughter of Vaile and Mayme (Nash) Campbell.
She attended school at District 7 and graduated from Garden County High School in 1940. She taught school one year at the Lone Star School and then worked for the Union Pacific Railroad as a telegrapher during the war. She taught at several other schools after that. In fact she was her daughter's first teacher in Grant, NE, where she became Mrs. Johnson both at school and at home.
On October 15, 1944 she married Harley Johnson of St. Paul, NE and to that union only one child, a daughter was born, Annette Kae. They worked road construction and maintenance for several years. They moved back to Oshkosh so that their daughter could attend all her high school years in one school. Eileen worked for Brune Chevrolet for four years. She and her husband also had a livestock trucking business. They moved to Denver in late 1963 or early 1964, where she worked for a cross country trucking company and he drove trucks. This marriage ended in divorce in 1967.
On January 16, 1971, Eileen married Loren C. Peterson in Denver, Co. He also had one daughter, Deana, who became a good friend of Eileen. The Peterson's lived in Alaska for one year where he worked on modifying airplanes for Lear Siegler. Upon retirement, they bought a chicken farm in Cleveland Arkansas and enjoyed that experience, although it was really hard work. There was so much music in those hills of Arkansas. Eileen enjoyed all the jamborees and country singing very much. After fifteen years, they sold the farm, and retired in Scottsbluff, NE in May 1986. She enjoyed her crafts, writing, talking on the phone and being near to family. To her family meant everything in life.
Eileen lost Loren in January of 2008. She then moved to Oshkosh in October of that year and settled in Mesa View. She loved the apartment and made some good friends, but there just wasn't enough going on around her and she wasn't happy. Her eye sight was deteriorating, so she moved to Lewellen on New Years Day 2010 to Riverview Assisted Living in Lewellen. The first person she ran into was an old student of hers from way back. She finally felt at home and really liked all the activities, music, and people.
She is survived by her daughter, Annette Kae Carlson and her friend Jim Rittenhouse of Lewellen; step-daughter, Deana (Bud) Read of Colorado Springs, CO; two brothers, Lee Campbell of Oshkosh and Keith Campbell of Lewiston, ID; grandchildren, Ronda (Jeff) Bliemeister of Lincoln, NE, Kelli (Vicente) Rodarte of EI Paso TX, Troy (Jennifer) Carlson of Lewellen, Terry (Stephanie) Cornelius of Oklahoma City, OK, Linda Williams, Steve Read, and Karen Santee all of Colorado Springs, CO; 16 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren; along with many nieces, nephews, and friends.
