Mr. Calvert was born on March 29, 1921, in Simpsonville, to the late Elford and Ellen Marchbanks Calvert. He retired as a plant engineer from the Beattie-Furman Plant. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, and served during World War II. He was a member of Masonic Lodge #192 in Fountain Inn, Hejaz Shriner Club in Greenville, Rotary International, and was Past Post Commander of the American Legion Club in Fountain Inn. He was a member of Fountain Inn First Baptist Church, where he taught the Men's Sunday School Class, and was the Brotherhood Director for many years. He was a founding member of the Fountain Inn Hardee's Coffee Club, was an avid hunter and fisher, and was a master gardener.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, of the home, are two daughters and sons-in-law, Diane and Dewey Cox, of Fountain Inn, and Sue and Curtis Brookshire, of Washington, N.C.; a sister, Helen Ayers, of Simpsonville; three grandchildren, Cal Cox, Matthew Brookshire, and Marc Brookshire, and his wife, Sarah; two great-grandchildren, Cole Cox and Lilley Brookshire; and a stepgreat-grandchild, Jeremy Knight.
Pallbearers will be his nephews, Clif Calvert, Eddie Huff, Michael Cox, Jimmy, Jerry and Danny Powell. The family would like to especially thank the staff of Cancer Center of the Carolinas, the staff of St. Francis Hospice, and caregivers, Helena and Harry Kibblehouse. Also, a word of thanks to his special neighbors, Broadus and Shirley Goodwin.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. today at Fletcher Funeral Service in Fountain Inn. Burial, with military honors, will follow at Cannon Memorial Park.
