Former Majordomo of the Sacred Apostolic Palace and Cardinal Deacon of the Deaconry of San Giovanni Bosco in Via Tuscolana, Cardinal Federico Callori di Vignale was born on December 15, 1890, in Vignale Monferrato, Province of Alessandria, Italy, to a noble family.
Following his education at the Pontifical Gregorian University and the Pontifical Ecclesiastical Academy, he was ordained to the Priesthood at the age of 27, on December 16, 1917, in Rome, where he performed pastoral ministry in Rome between 1917 and 1958. Named Privy Chamberlain Participant of Holiness on July 6, 1919, he was reappointed on February 7, 1922, and again on March 3, 1939. Appointed Canon of the Chapter of the Patriarchal Vatican Basilica on June 3, 1935, he was furthermore named Domestic Prelate of His Holiness on May 28, 1935, Protonotary Apostolic on June 6, 1935, Pro - Master of the Papal Chamber on December 20, 1950, Knight Grand Cross of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic on January 12, 1953, and Majordomo of the Sacred Apostolic Palace on October 29, 1958.
At the age of 74, he was elected Archbishop of the Titular See of Maiuca by Pope Paul VI on February 15, 1965, receiving his Episcopal Consecration on February 21, at the Patriarchal Vatican Basilica, from Cardinal Eugène Tisserant, Bishop of the Suburbicarian See of Ostia and Porto e Santa Rufina, Former Dean of the Sacred College of Cardinals, assisted by Msgr. Diego Venini, Titular Archbishop of the See of Adana and Privy Almoner of His Holiness, and by Msgr. Pericle Felici, Titular Archbishop of the See of Samosata and Secretary General of the Second Vatican Council, both future Cardinals.
The following day, Callori di Vignale was created Cardinal Deacon in the Consistory of February 22, 1965, with the Deaconry of San Giovanni Bosco in Via Tuscolana, resigning from his posts on the same day.
The Majordomo Emeritus died on August 10, 1971, in the Vatican City, aged 80, and lies buried inside the Chapel Tomb of his family in Vignale Monferrato.
