Frances was born in rural Jasper County, Iowa to Erville and Minnie Ardelle Dennis Callison. Following the death of her mother she lived with family at Perry and later returned to Kellogg. She was a graduate of Kellogg High School with the Class of 1929.
On September 16, 1929, she was married to Arthur Hollis Benson, son of Arthur Horace and Ida May Faircloth Benson, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. The couple farmed near Kellogg and Frances also operated the Kellogg Cafe and was a seamstress at DeLong's Sportswear Company. In 1970 her husband, Arthur, died and she was married to Raymond R. Reed in 1977.
Frances was a member of the Rock Creek Neighborly Neighbors and enjoyed sewing; crocheting and spending time with her grandchildren.
She is survived by her children, Beverly Johnson of Cass Lake, Minnesota, Jerry Benson of Grinnell, Ann Chedester of Laurel, and Arthur "Tom" Benson of South Sioux City, Nebraska; 14 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; five great great grandchildren; and one sister, Bess Williams.
Frances died on Thursday, March 25, 1999 at Friendship Manor in Grinnell. She was 86 years of age, and preceded in death by both of her husbands; her parents; three grandchildren, Terry Benson, John Chedester, and Connie Elaine Chedester; two brothers, Ross and Jack Callison; and one sister, Myrtle Pickering.
A prayer service was held at the Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell with the Rev. Howard Lord of Montezuma officiating. Graveside services were held at Our Silent City Cemetery in Kellogg with the Rev. John Claussen of Des Moines officiating.
Memorials to the Kellogg Ambulance Service were accepted.
