Helen Callison
A celebration of life will be held at 11 a.m. Sept. 10, at St. Andrew's Baptist Church in Columbia, S.C., for Helen Elizabeth Callison of Eugene, who died July 9 of age-related causes. She was 83.
She was born July 20, 1927, in Chicago to LeRoy and Ruby Hammond Leppard. She married Preston Callison on July 9, 1949, in Rutherfordton, N.C.
She held an undergraduate bachelor of arts degree and graduated with a Ph.D. in education from the University of South Carolina in 1978. She held a master's degree from the University of North Carolina. She worked as a high school librarian in Columbia and West Columbia, S.C.
Survivors include her husband; four daughters, Kate Johnson of Eugene, Melissa Kremer of Rome, Ga., and Rebecca Callison and Dale Callison, both of Seattle; a son, Preston Jr. of Jacksonville, Fla.; and seven grandchildren.
