Mrs. Claire Wardlaw Callihan died at Campbell's Clinic in Memphis Saturday morning as the result of a fall, suffered at her home on East Sixth Street late Thursday afternoon. Mrs. Callihan had started to enter the home and fell on the front steps, fractured her right hip. She was taken to the Clinic on Friday morning and passed away without regaining consciousness following an operation to relieve the injury Saturday morning, July 21.
Mrs. Callihan was born in Ripley, Tenn. on February 2, 1881, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jas. F. Wardlaw and was aged 70 years, 5 months and 20 days. She had been a resident of Caruthersville for thirty years. Her husband, G.F. Callihan was killed in an automobile accident on December 26, 1938.
She is survived by two sons, Gerard of this city and Fred Callihan of Blytheville; three grandchildren; five sisters, Mrs. Nancy W. Galloway and Mrs. Frances W. McGoldrick of Memphis, Mrs. Maude Haliburton of Ripley, Mrs. Willis Whitfield of Henning, Tenn. and Mrs. Margaret Paschal of Covngton, Tenn.; and three brothers, D.M. Wardlaw of Memphis, J.F. Wardlaw of Ripley and H.L. Wardlaw of Cleveland, Ohio.
Funeral services were held at 2:30 o'clock Tuesday afternoon at the Methodist Church with the Rev. Harold Nance of Malden conducting the service. Burial was in Little Prairie Cemetery with LaForge Undertaking Company in charge.
