Virginia A. Burke, 85, died at 9:10 a.m. Saturday (Oct. 14, 2000) at the Swiss Village, Berne, where she was a resident.
Mrs. Burke was a homemaker and a member of the First Mennonite Church in Berne. She was formerly employed at Berco Co., Swiss Village, and had also served as a volunteer at the Swiss Village.
She was born May 17, 1915, in Adams County to Jesse and Elizabeth Campbell Callihan. She married Herman Burke April 1, 1934, in Adams County. Her husband died in January of 1999.
Survivors include three sons, Fred Burke of Fort Wayne, William Burke of Huntington, and Don Burke of Berne; three daughters, Mrs. Norman (Elizabeth) Koons of Decatur, Mrs. Phillip (Sue) Wulliman of Berne, and Mrs. Roger (Gretchen) Lautzenheiser of Terre Haute; a sister, Mary Ellen Bauman of Geneva; 16 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by three sisters, Gretchen Patterson, Bernice Armantrout and Ruth Callihan; and two grandsons.
Calling is 3-8 p.m. Tuesday and from 9 a.m. until the 10:30 a.m. funeral service Wednesday at the Swiss Village Chapel, 1350 W. Main, Berne. Rev. Craig Maven and Chaplain Anita Rediger will officiate.
Burial will be at the MRE Cemetery, Berne.
Preferred memorials are to the Swiss Village Endowment Fund or to First Mennonite Church Missions.
