James L. Callender, 61, of Tarentum, died Wednesday, Nov. 30, 2011, at UPMC St. Margaret Memorial Hospital, Pittsburgh. He was born Jan. 26, 1950, in Harrison Township, a son of James C. Callender, of Frazer Township, and the late Jeannette (Prignon) Callender, who died in 2003, and he lived most of his life in Tarentum. James graduated from East Deer High School in 1968 and was a member of Bull Creek Presbyterian Church in West Deer Township. He was employed for 17 years at Conviber in Springdale, where he made conveyor belts. He was a member of the Tarentum Eagles, Tarentum Elks and a social member of the Brackenridge American Legion. James is survived by his wife of 39 years, Barbara (Monarko) Callender; sons, James (Regina) Callender, of Natrona Heights, and Jason (Cristina) Callender, of Creighton; grandchildren, James, Jason, Cheyenne and Warren; brothers, Gail (Wendy) Callender, of Frazer Township, Thomas (Becky) Callender, of Winfield Township, Clifford Callender, of Arnold, Mark (Val) Callender, of Florida, and Martin Callender, of O'Hara Township; and sister, Marie Conley, of New Mexico. Besides his mother, James was preceded in death by his brother, Gary Callender, in 1984. "His battle is over, no more pain, no more suffering. He's gone Home."Relatives and friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday in the DUSTER FUNERAL HOME INC., Tenth Avenue at Corbet St., Tarentum, 724-224-1526. There will be no visitation Sunday. Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday in the funeral by his cousin, the Rev. Daniel K. Ekas, Pastor of Burgettstown Presbyterian Church, officiating.
