Obituary -- April 10,1988 Springfield Union:
Colrain – Donald Samuel Call, 66, of Thompson Road, 29-year owner and operator of Call Opticians in Amherst, died Friday [April 8, 1988] in Franklin Medical Center, Greenfield. Born in Holyoke, he lived in Colrain for several years. He graduated from Turners Falls High School in 1939. He was a World War II Army veteran. He was a member of Leverett Congregational Church and the Amherst Lions Club. He was past president of the Amherst Chamber of commerce and a 32nd degree mason of the Masonic Lodge in Amherst. He leaves his wife, the former Helen Rowan; six sons, Donald S Jr of St Petersburg, Fla., Glenn R. of Belchertown, Bruce D. of Leverett, and Frederick D., William E. and Bryon L., all at home; a daughter, Donna M Call of Leverett; two step daughters, Karen Weed of Madison, Wisc., and Pamela Eichler of Los Angeles, Calif.; his father, Robert B. Call of Keene, N.H.; two brothers, Howard B of Northfield and Robert J of West Newbury; a sister, Mildred E Green of Greenfield; two grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. The funeral will be Tuesday morning at the Smith-Kelleher Funeral Home, Shelburne Falls, with burial in Branch Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Colrain Ambulance Fund, in care of June Ahearn, Colrain, 01340, or to any charity.
