Aloha Marie Arrington Harmon Smith Caldwell, 87, passed away peacefully, Saturday, May 5, 2012 in Kuna, Idaho.
Aloha was born on January 4, 1925 in Halsted, Kansas, the youngest daughter of Floyd and Zella Arrington. She was named by her grandfather who was in Hawaii at that time.
Aloha grew up in Kansas, California, and Arkansas. She graduated from Wichita High School in 1944. She then attended the University of Kansas, in the Engineering Science Management War course in Aeronautical Technician training during the fall of 1944 and worked at Boeing Aircraft in Wichita during WWII.
Aloha married PFC Robert Harmon in Kansas in 1945 and moved to Boise, Idaho where he was stationed at Gowen Field. Aloha and Robert lost their son, Rusty, shortly after his birth in 1945.
Aloha met Lynn Smith at Arthur Murray's Dance Studio in Boise where they both were instructors. They were married on Christmas Eve, 1951, in Boise. Together they ran the HiHo Club in Garden City, Idaho for a short time. Aloha also worked for the Idaho Liquor Dispensary before going to work for Graybar Electric in 1955 and retiring from there in 1981.
Aloha loved to paint flowers, landscapes of Cascade Lake, and the ocean. At four feet eleven inches tall and one hundred ten pounds, Aloha was always the small end of nothing big. She was a working Mother who found time to be a Cub Scout Den Mother and a PTA Mom.
On April 10, 1992, Aloha married Robert Caldwell in Addy, Washington.
Aloha moved back to Boise in 2007 and then to Kuna, Idaho in 2009, spending the last 3 years in the loving company of her sons, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
Aloha is survived by her sister, Alice Hutton, 92; two sons, Floyd and Bryce Smith; stepson, Nick Smith; six grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Floyd and Zella (Hastings) Arrington; her stepmother, Aileen Arrington; her brothers, Melvin and Paul Arrington; her sister, Gladys Smith; and her first child, Russell "Rusty" Harmon.
Aloha's ashes will be buried with her son, Rusty, at Morris Hill Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to the Kuna Assisted Living Center, Kuna, Idaho.
A Celebration of Aloha's life will be held at 1:00 pm, Saturday, May 26, 2012 at Cloverdale Funeral Home, Boise, Idaho.
