Sylvia C. Ammenhauser, 81, of 1007 Center Ave., Ottumwa died at 4:27 pm October 15, 2012.

She was born July 25, 1931 in Ottumwa to Orville and Edna Stocker Caldwell. She married Jim Ammenhauser on October 29, 1955. He preceded her in death on March 21, 2003. A 1949 graduate of Ottumwa High School, she had been a resident of Ottumwa all of her life. Sylvia had taught in Head Start, retiring in 1994. She was a member of St. Mary of the Visitation and Royal Neighbors of America.

Surviving are a daughter, Karen(Randy)Short of Ankeny; two grandchildren, Beau and Amanda; and a sister, Edna Brown of Iowa City.

She was preceded in death by a son, Lee Ammenhauser and a daughter, Kebra Ammenhauser.

Funeral Mass will be 10 am Friday at St. Mary of the Visitation with Father Bernie Weir presiding. Burial will be in McCormick Cemetery near Highland Center. Visitation begins at 10 am Thursday at Reece Funeral Home with the family present from 5-7 pm Thursday. A Christian Wake service will be held at 7 pm Thursday. Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, Memphis, TN.
