Services for Mrs. Emma Adkins, 82, will be conducted Thursday, November 6, at 10 a.m. in the First United Methodist Church. Mrs. Adkins, a longtime resident of the Loco and Wellington areas and the wife of the late George Adkins, died November 4 in Collingsworth General Hospital.
Mrs. Adkins was born December 10, 1903 in Washita County, OK, then the Indian Territory. She was the daughter of the late W.S. Calcote and Ora Belle Mayo Calcote.
Early in this century, the family moved to the Loco Community, where they were active in its growth of the community and in its activities. Mrs. Adkins was a member of Loco Methodist Church and was active in it as long as the Methodist Church remained at Loco. She attended the Loco School.
For many years she participated in the Loco-Arlie Reunion.
Mrs. Adkins enjoyed her family and friends, gardening, quilting and other handwork, and being available to help others in times of need.
Survivors are one daughter, Rachel Bethine Estes of Levelland; two sisters, Marie Cayton of Amarillo and Ora Belle Cayton of Merico, CA; three brothers: Clifford Calcote of Dalhart; Robert Calcote of Oklahoma City and Jeff Calcote of Mulvane, Kansas. There are four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
