Melaine Irene Luck Wheeler "Granny" Cain, a seamstress, died Saturday at her home after a lengthy illness. She was 74.

Mrs.Cain, a native of Chicago, was a resident of St. Elmo.

She was a member of St. Margaret Catholic Church in Bayou La Batre, where she was a member of the Ladies Sodality. She was a former member of the Coden United Methodist Church in Coden.

Survivors include her husband of 35 years, James M. Cain of St. Elmo; one son, Fredrick Elmer Wheeler Sr. of Mobile; two daughters, Constance Wheeler Malone of Grand Bay and Christine Wheeler McLeod of Mobile; one brother, Edmund R. Luck of Branson, Mo.; 10 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

The service is set for 10 a.m. today at Serenity Funeral Home on Old Pascagoula Road in Theodore. Burial will be in Oddfellows Cemetery in Bayou La Batre, followed by a a gathering and meal at Bayou Wesleyan Church.

Memorials may be made to St. Margaret Catholic Church or Odyssey Hospice.
