Funeral services were held April 9, 1945, at Smith & Tuthill Funeral Chapel, Santa Ana, California, for Mrs. LaVonne Sissel Cain of 721 East Pine St. Rev. Howell of The Church of the Brethren, Long Beach, California, officiated. Interment was in Fairhaven Cemetery, Santa Ana.
Mrs. Cain was born August 16, 1914, in Carleton, Nebraska. At the age of 6, the family moved to Nelson, Nebraska, where she attended grade school and high school, graduating in 1933. At a very young age, LaVonne joined the Methodist church (sic) in Nelson.
On August 26, 1929, at Troy, Kansas, she was married to Leo T. Cain of Morrill Kansas. Mr. Cain joined the U.S. Navy in 1943, and is now at sea.
In January, 1942, Mrs. Cain came to California with her husband, settling at Long Beach. Mrs. Cain had been ill since soon after coming to California, being hospitalized in Long Beach, and in bed for several months at home. In the fall of 1942, she moved to Tustin with her family, and the following Spring they moved to Santa Ana. On February 24, 1945, at 5 A.M. LaVonne was taken to St. Joseph Hospital in Orange, and passed away at 9:40 A.M. April 6.
LaVonne leaves her parents, Mr. and Mrs. William Roy Sissel; one sister, Eileen Sissell (sic); all of Santa Ana; four brothers, Dale of Glidden, Iowa, Galen of the U.S. Army in France, Dwight and Eugene of the U.S. Navy; and her husband, all at sea.
Pallbearers were S-Sgt. Verlin Sissel, Blain Sissel, Melvin Teeter of Santa Ana;; Cpl. "Bud" Teeter of Tustin; Jimmy and Virgil Nichols of Los Angeles.
